typography challenge: comic book
'Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities'

This project hosted a number of concepts that needed to be reimagined or presented in a typographic form.

A couple of chapters from Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities were chosen and many fell under the concept of 'Cities of the Dead'.

They were depicted in a comic book style to redesign the stories and also create a visualised version through typography.
The colours were kept black and white
to add to the comic-book-inspired design and made use of simple vector shapes to play with black and white spaces; which also acts as the blocks that separate scenes or texts in a comic book.

The cover design was inspired by the title in the fact that these stories hold some sort of invisibility to them. This lead to an illusion-styled design called scanimation or barrier-grid animation; that used an acetate cover to bring the title to life when removed from or put onto the book in a sliding motion.
